Founding Editors In Chief Ronald A. Dieckmann, MD, MPH, FAAP, FACEP Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine University of California, San Francisco, California, was educated at Harvard, Stanford Medical School, and the Berkeley School of Public Health, then completed his medical training at University of California, San Francisco. He is a Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at University of California, San Francisco and was the Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at San Francisco General Hospital for 25 years. Triple board certified in pediatrics, pediatric emergency medicine, and general emergency medicine, Dr. Dieckmann is a founding physician of the specialty of pediatric emergency medicine as an original member of the American Pediatric Emergency Medicine SubBoard. He has edited five different medical textbooks, is a frequent speaker at national and international medical conferences, and has received national awards for service to American medical education and training. Dr. Dieckmann is also the Chairman of the Board of KidsCareEverywhere, a nonprofit charitable foundation that donates medical software to physicians and public hospitals in the developing world. Robert Pitt, MBBS, FRACP, FACEM Associate Professor Paediatrics and Child Health University of Queensland is an Australian Paediatrician and the first Australian Paediatric Emergency Physician to train in the USA who has been developing world class medical software for 20 years. Dr Pitt was an outspoken clinical safety advocate at a time when PEM was establishing itself as a specialty in Queensland and is a passionate injury prevention advocate directing the Queensland Injury Prevention Unit over the same period. Dr Pitt was the driver behind the current Standards Australia policy on swimming pool fencing. Not deterred by his daytime job as Director of the largest Paediatric Emergency Department in Queensland, Dr. Pitt began his lengthy software career after being introduced to computers while training at The Children’s Hospital, Boston in the mid 1980s. In the early 1990’s, he created one of the first ED patient informatics systems with a graphic user interface - which is still used worldwide today. In the mid 1990’s, he created PaEDPac, an early model of medical decision support software, which inspired PEMSoft. He loves seeing his four adult children, sailing, exploring and traveling. He lives on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland where he continues to practice part-time as a paediatrician while continually enhancing PEMSoft and coordinating the creative team of software programmers, web designers and graphic artists responsible for the software.
